If you would have taken a look into my wardrobe a while ago, you would find a lot of colourful dresses, skirts and shoes. In the matter of accessories, however, I didn’t own a big collection. But when I visited the US for the first time, I learned how important accessories can be to complete a vintage outfit.

All the better, then, that I happen to know a creative mind and great talent named Glitter Paradise. The woman running the jewelry business became a good friend over time and I’m a big lover of her creations. Our paths crossed the first time in 2014, when I did a photo shooting with Nouva Fotografie at the Black Forest Warehouse, featuring the Confetti Lucite Collection by Glitter Paradise. Our mutual friend, the founder of La Pin Up, introduced us and we had many fun collaborations since then.

For eight years now, Glitter Paradise’s jewelry is being handcrafted with love in the sunny south of France and it has a huge worldwide fan base. You see a lot of famous Vintage Models promoting pieces by Glitter, like Bernie Dexter, Idda van Munster, Angelique Noire, Acid Doll and many more. Every time I open a package coming from France, I’m very grateful and happy to be a part of the Glitter Paradise Team. You can tell that Glitter Paradise puts a lot of passion in her work because every piece looks unique and is crafted into every detail.

Glitter Paradise describes her creations as quirky, retro, spooky one-of-a-kind accessories for people with attitude. And what can I say? She is right! In the Glitter Paradise Online Shop, you will find everything you can only imagine – 30’s Bakelite style bracelets, Vintage Brooches of all kinds for ladies and gentlemen as well as colourful Hair Flowers, just to name a few. Several themes are covered, like Halloween (Skulls and Bats for the Zombie-Lovers), Maritime (Anchors and Wheels for the Sailor Girls), Nature (Flowers and Fruits for the hippies) or Travel (Eiffel tower earrings for those suffering from wanderlust, just like me).

I think the best way to get to know someone is to ask questions. So, please have a read through my interview with the talented Glitter Paradise:

 

1) When and why did you start making your own jewelry?

It all started because I never liked to wear the same things as others. So I decided to make my own stuff. Then, my girlfriends loved my first creations and they asked if I could create some for them, so I did.

In 2008, I’ve decided to put a few of my creations online to see if I could sell any and in less than a week, they were all gone!

I noticed that me and my gals were not the only ones enjoying them and since I loved crafting so much, I decided to build my own brand and to open my online shop.

2) Why did you choose to craft mostly vintage-inspired pieces?

My first creations were much darker or cute, but since I’ve always loved nostalgic things, my work constantly came with a twist of retro. This includes designs of 50’s cars, old school tattoo, inspired by fetish, bondage and pin-ups visuals. That way, retro lovers could easily find something they like.

Since the Pin-Up Lifestyle made a major comeback around the time when I’ve founded my company, Glitter Paradise became a reference jewelry brand in this growing retro industry. So, I focused on more vintage inspired creations to keep my modern Pin-Up customers happy as they became the most important lovers of Glitter Paradise.

3) Tell me about you name – What does “Glitter Paradise” stand for?

When I started my company and searched for a name, I knew that I wanted to keep my creations fun and accessible to all by avoiding the use of expensive material such as gold or diamonds. I wanted a girly, magical and unpretentious name. The expression ‘All that glitters is not gold’ kept coming back in my head, but I think that we can still have a paradise without gold so ‘Glitter Paradise’ came as an evidence. Moreover, people have always called me ‘Glitter’ ever since.

4) How long does it take to craft a certain piece of jewellery?

It really depends on the style and the make – some can take three minutes, some take three days.

5) Where do you get your inspiration for your jewellery motives?

I’m a very passionate person and I get inspired by all the things I love. Since I love many things, I have more ideas than I have time.

My models inspired me a lot as well. I’m blessed for having the most wonderful beauties worldwide in my model team, such as my lovely Rina Bambina. They are all so different and gorgeous and I love making all kinds of jewelry to suit their style!

6) What do you like the most about being in the self-made business?

The endless freedom to do what I love and I love what I do.

7) Is there any gem in the world that you would love to possess?

I would say an Hawaiian island, but let’s stay realistic, the 1st original 1959 barbie #1 would totally do the job!

8) What kind of (future) collaboration would be a dream come true for you?

I can say that I’m lucky enough as many of my dream collaborations came true already. I’m often like ‘What?! Is this really happening!?’

I would love to make creations for someone glamourous and fun like Ru Paul or for TV shows such as American Horror Story. But mostly, my dream would be for everyone to have their favorite Glitter Paradise accessory, including Angela Merkel ^^

Die Welt muss glitzern!

Wer noch bis vor kurzer Zeit einen Blick in meinen Kleiderschrank riskiert hätte, wäre dort auf zahlreiche bunte Kleider, Röcke und Schuhe gestoßen. Meine Sammlung an Accessoires war jedoch recht überschaubar. Spätestens seit meinem letzten USA-Aufenthalt weiß ich, dass gerade die kleinen Details, wie Handtaschen, Broschen und Haarschmuck ein Vintage-Outfit erst komplett machen.

Umso besser ist es, dass ich eine talentierte Schmuck-Designerin aus dem Süden Frankreichs kenne, die auf den Namen „Glitter Paradise“ hört. Unsere Wege kreuzten sich zum ersten Mal vor zwei Jahren beim Fotoshooting mit Nouva Fotografie für das Black Forest Warehouse (an dieser Stelle ein großes Danke an La Pin Up, der uns miteinander bekannt gemacht hat!). Mit der Zeit hatte ich immer öfter die Gelegenheit, Schmuck-Kreationen aus dem Hause Glitter Paradise zu fotografieren, so auch auf dem diesjährigen Viva Las Vegas.

Glitter Paradise stellt ihren Schmuck bereits seit acht Jahren selbst her und steckt dabei viel Liebe und Leidenschaft in den Herstellungs-Prozess. Sie fertigt viele einzigartige Schmuckstücke (auch auf Anfrage) an und bedient sich dabei vieler Themen aus dem Retro-Bereich. In ihrem Online-Shop finden sich zum Beispiel kunterbunte Armreifen im Tiki-Stil, Ketten mit Ankern oder Totenköpfen, sowie Ohrringe mit Motiven wie dem Eiffelturm oder Seepferdchen viagra sur ordonnance.

Der beste Weg, einen Künstler kennenzulernen, ist, Fragen zu stellen. Daher habe ich ein Interview mit Glitter Paradise geführt, das ich nun euch zeigen möchte:

1) Wann hast du begonnen, deinen eigenen Schmuck herzustellen? Und was waren deine Beweggründe?

Ich wollte schon immer besondere Dinge tragen, um mich von anderen abzuheben. Also begann ich damit, meine eigenen Sachen anzufertigen. Meine Freundinnen liebten meine ersten Kreationen und fragten mich, ob ich auch welche für sie anfertigen könne, was ich dann auch tat.

Im Jahr 2008 beschloss ich, ein paar Schmuckstücke online zu stellen und innerhalb einer Woche hatte ich alle verkauft.

Als ich merkte, dass mein Schmuck nicht nur bei mir und meinen Freundinnen gut ankam, entschloss ich mich, meinen eigenen Online-Shop zu eröffnen.

2) Warum hast du dich gerade auf die Herstellung von Vintage-Schmuck spezialisiert?

Meine ersten Stücke waren entweder düster oder niedlich, aber da ich schon immer nostalgisch gestimmt war, hatten meine Kreationen oft einen Retro-Touch. Dazu gehörten Designs wie klassische Autos, Oldschool Tattoos oder Designs, die von der Fetisch-, Bondage- oder Pin-Up Szene inspiriert waren. Für jeden Retro-Liebhaber war etwas dabei.

Zum Zeitpunkt der „Glitter Paradise“ – Gründung feierte der Pin-Up Lifestyle sein großes Comeback und ich fand, dass meine Marke gut zu der Retro-Industrie passte. Um meine größer werdende Pin-Up Zielgruppe glücklich zu machen, fokussierte ich also mehr auf Vintage-Schmuck.

3) Wofür steht der Name „Glitter Paradise“?

Bei der Gründung meines Unternehmens suchte ich nach einem Namen, der mädchenhaft, magisch, aber auch schlicht klingt. Ich hatte den Wunsch, meine Schmuckstücke für jeden erschwinglich zu machen, indem ich teure Werkstoffe, wie Gold oder Diamanten mied. Dabei kam mir der Ausdruck „Es ist nicht alles Gold, was glänzt“ in den Sinn. Dennoch glaubte ich, dass die Welt auch ohne Gold paradiesisch sein kann – und so entstand der Name „Glitter Paradise“. Und die Leute nennen mich seitdem nur noch „Glitter“.

4) Wie lange dauert der Herstellungsprozess eines Schmuckstücks?

Das kommt ganz auf den Style und die Machart an – für manche Stücke brauch ich nur drei Minuten, andere dauern bis zu drei Tagen.

5) Was inspiriert dich für deine Schmuck-Motive?

Ich bin generell ein leidenschaftlicher Mensch und lasse mich von vielen Dingen inspirieren. Ich mag sehr viele Themen, daher habe ich meistens mehr Ideen als Zeit, diese umzusetzen.

Meine Modelle inspirieren mich ebenfalls. Ich bin sehr glücklich, ein weltweites Netzwerk an wunderschönen Modellen zu haben. Die Mädchen sind sehr unterschiedlich und ich liebe es, alle möglichen Arten von Schmuck für ihre Styles herzustellen.

6) Was schätzt du am meisten an deiner Selbstständigkeit?

Die nicht endende Freiheit, das zu tun, was ich liebe und zu lieben, was ich tue.

7) Gibt es ein bestimmtes Schmuckstück, das du gerne besitzen würdest?

Du meinst, abgesehen von einer Insel auf Hawaii? Die erste Original-Barbie wäre perfekt für mich.

8) Was wäre deine (künftige) Traum-Kollaboration?

Viele meiner Traum-Kollaborationen wurden bereits wahr, was mich sehr glücklich macht. Oft denke ich mir: „Was? Ist das wirklich wahr?“

Ich würde gerne Schmuck für glamouröse Persönlichkeiten wie Ru Paul oder für TV-Shows wie American Horror Story herstellen. Aber mein größter Traum ist es, dass jeder sein Lieblings-Accessoire bei Glitter Paradise findet – sogar Angela Merkel.
