Rina goes to Switzerland

My first trip to Switzerland was a big step forward for my career as a Pin-Up Girl. Last year, I attended the ‘Miss Coca Cola Pin-Up Contest’ at the Route 66 Festival in Aarburg. I was very lucky to win the title ‘Miss Route 66’ 2015 as well as a trip to Las Vegas. Read everything about the Pin-Up contest here (click me) and about my adventure in Las Vegas here (click me).

As ‘Miss Route 66’, I also had the honor to crown the ‘Miss Route 66 2016’ and therefore, I was very happy to return to Aarburg to meet my swiss Pin-Up friends. I decided to arrive a few days before the event to explore the beautiful city Zurich.

I walked along the Lake Zurich, I strolled through the romantic old town, I took the cableway and a famous ‘Limmat-Boat’ to discover the inner city. At the end of the day, I got some rest in the Chinese garden, a very peaceful place at Zurichhorn.

One highlight was my shopping experience at the Powderroom. I found the perfect dress for my ‘jury duty’ at the Pin-Up contest – a ravishing red dress by Glamour Bunny. I already marvelled at this dress online, but I wasn’t sure if it would be right for me. I tried it on at the boutique and what can I say? As I looked at myself in the mirror, I knew that this would be my new dress. You can find many international Vintage brands like Bettie Page Clothing, Colletif Clothing, The Pretty Dress or Emmy at the Powderroom. The owner of the shop – Sandra – also provided a fabulous ballroom dress by The Pretty Dress for my upcoming photo shooting. I felt like a princess.

Before continuing my journey to Aarburg, I walked through the old town of Aarau and caught the last sunrays with Marcio Photo & Art.

 

The Route 66 event started with the exciting challenge to find the new ‘Miss Route 66’. Thirty Pin-Up Girls presented themselves to the jury and the audience. After picking five finalists, the people chose their winner by cheering for their favourite girl. I shared the excitement with every girl on the stage and I was amazed by all of them.

To be honest, it wasn’t easy for me to rate all those pretty girls. As a psychologist, I tried to focus on the heart and the brain of the participants. I wanted to make sure that there was a certain passion for the Pin-Up style, besides the outer appearance. The girls had to understand the meaning and the background of being a Pin-Up girl. Furthermore, I was interested in an authentic, but individual interpretation of the Vintage Style.

Finally, the people chose April Vintage to be their new ‘Miss Route 66’. She charmed the jury and the crowd with her sweet looks and her unique dancing performance. Congratulations!

After the Pin-Up contest, I had the chance to walk around the festival site looking at maaany classic cars. I was happy about the reunion with the people I met last year. The party took until midnight and after a few hours of sleep, I started my journey back home.

Rina in der Schweiz

Mein erster Besuch in der Schweiz endete mit einem Knall und dem Titel ‘Miss Route 66 2015’ (hier geht’s zum Blogpost: klick mich!).

Ein Jahr später bescherte dieser Titel  mir ein Wiedersehen mit den schweizer Pin-Up Girls und erteilte mir die ehrenhafte Aufgabe, die neue ‚Miss Route 66 Aarbrug 2016‘ zu krönen. Ich beschloss, ein paar Tage vor Festival-Beginn anzureisen und meine Zeit in der malerischen Stadt Zürich zu verbringen.

Ich spazierte entlang des Zürich-Sees, bummelte duch die Altstadt, staunte über die pompösen Schaufenster der Läden von Chanel, Jimmy Choo und Louis Vitton, fuhr mit der Seilbahn und schipperte in einem Limmat-Schiff durch die Innenstadt. Im chinesischen Garten am Zürichhorn fand ich schließlich ein wenig Ruhe am Ende eines eindruckvollen Tages.

Ein Highlight war mein Shopping-Erlebnis im Powderroom. Ich fand das perfekte Kleid für meinen Jury-Auftritt beim Route 66 Festival – ein rotes Kleid von Glamour Bunny im Flamenco-Stil. Ich hatte das Kleid bereits online bewundert, mich aber nicht getraut, es zu bestellen. In der Boutique durfte ich das aufregende Kleid probetragen und musste es einfach kaufen. Im Powderroom Zürich findet man außerdem noch viele andere internationale Vintage-Labels wie The Pretty Dress, Bettie Page Clothing, Emmy oder Collectif Clothing. Sandra, die zauberhafte Inhaberin der Powderroom Boutique und ebenfalls Jury-Mitglied des Pin-Up Contests, stattete mich außerdem mit einem wunderschönen Ballkleid von The Pretty Dress für ein anstehendes Fotoshooting aus. Ich fühlte mich in dem Kleid mit dem wunderschönen Rosen-Print wie eine Prinzessin.

Bevor ich meine Reise nach Aarburg fortsetzte, nutzte ich gemeinsam mit Marcio Photo&Art die letzten Sonnenstunden in der Altstadt von Aarau, um ein paar schöne Erinnerungsfotos mit nach Hause zu nehmen.

Der Tag auf dem Route 66 Festival begann mit meiner spannenden Aufgabe, die neue ‚Miss Route 66‘ zu finden. Insgesamt 30 Pin-Up Girls präsentierten sich der Jury (inklusive mir, der lieben Sarah aus dem Powderroom, sowie der der Reise-Sponsorin) und dem Publikum. Ich fieberte mit jedem Mädchen mit, denn ich kenne die Aufregung und nervöse Flattern vor einem solchen Auftritt nur zu gut. Die Jury durfte fünf Finalistinnen bestimmen, die sich dann in einer zweiten Runde dem Publikums-Voting unterziehen mussten. Dabei wurde die Lautstärke des Applauses mithilfe eines Dezibel-Messgerätes bestimmt.  

Ich muss gestehen, dass es mir nicht leicht gefallen ist, die Mädchen zu bewerten. Als Psychologin achtete ich vor allem auf die Herzen und die Köpfe der Teilnehmerinnen. Ist neben dem äußeren Erscheinungsbild auch eine innere Leidenschaft für den Vintage-Stil vorhanden? Was verstehen die Mädchen von der Kultur, in der sie sich bewegen und wie authentisch und individuell setzten sie ihre Vorstellungen um? Das waren die Fragen, die ich mir stellte, um meiner Aufgabe als Jury-Mitglied gerecht zu werden.

Gemeinsam mit dem Publikum krönten wir April Vintage zur ‚Miss Route 66 Aarburg 2016‘. Sie überzeugte sowohl im Hinblick auf ihr Outfit, und ihre Performance, bei der sie zusammen mit ihrem Mann eine wilde Sohle aufs Parkett legte, war mitreißend. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!

Nach dem Contest hatte ich die Gelegenheit, das Gelände und die vielen tollen Autos zu erkunden. Ich freute mich über das Wiedersehen mit zahlreichen lieben Menschen, die ich im letzten Jahr beim Event kennengelernt hatte. Wir feierten bis tief in die Nacht und nach wenigen Stunden Schlaf trat ich schließlich schweren Herzens meine Heimreise an.
